2017 Wii Bowling Competition
After months of playoffs, four teams of Wii Bowlers comprised of seniors and individuals with disabilities advanced to the Final Four, which took place in Springfield, IL on May 31 & June 1. More than 80 Wii Bowling teams from Supportive Living communities across Illinois competed against one another virtually to qualify for the state championship. The Final Four teams were the Prairie Pin Heads from Prairie Living at Chautauqua, the Heritage Woodsmen Plus from Heritage Woods of Charleston, the Eden Strikers from Eden Supportive Living - North Aurora and the Fab 5 from Heritage Woods of Batavia.
Wii Bowling Wrap Up
For the second year in the row, proving they were no fluke, the Eden Strikers took home the statewide championship title!
On May 31, the Semi Finals were held between the four teams. The Fab 5 moved on to the state championship final after besting past champions, the Heritage Woodsmen, by a score of 1846 to 1754. The Eden Strikers also moved on to the finals by topping the Prairie Pin Heads with a total score of 1790 to 1631. Impressive bowling was found throughout the day with Marilyn Klingermann from the Pin Heads taking home the high score of the day with a 278!
On June 1, the final day of competition kicked off with a battle to determine 3rd and 4th place finishes. After a hard fought round, the Heritage Woodsmen took home 3rd place with a two game score of 1656 versus the Prairie Living Pin Heads who finished in fourth with a grand total of 1449 pins. Next up was the final game where one of our two finalists would be crowned the 2017 State Champions. The Fab 5 took on the Eden Strikers in an effort to dethrone them of their championship title from last year. A mere 32 pins separated the teams in game one, but in game 2, the Eden Strikers bowled with near perfection to take the state championship title. In fact, two Eden Striker bowlers, Jeff Parker & Johnathon Putnam, bowled a 298 and 288 respectively! Parker’s game earned him the MVP title for the entire series. Congratulations! Also posting an impressive game was Shirley Herman, from the Fab 5 who struck out with a 278. Making the day even more exciting is the fact that Fox Illinois news came out to cover the Wii Bowling tournament (check it out here - http://foxillinois.com/news/local/springfield-seniors-take-on-wii-bowling-championship)
Congratulations to the Eden Strikers, once again, on their victory. And, congratulations to every team that participated in this year’s tournament! We look forward to seeing who will make the Final Four next year.
